The results from this study provide a critical step in an effort to protect eagles as we move away from the use of fossil fuels and rely more on wind power.
Detect volcanic eruptions and venusquakes without landing on Venus?
Climate change is shifting ocean environments, and those warming temperatures may lead to louder soundscape contributions from marine biology.
Technology development to enable detection of quakes on Venus using high altitude balloons.
The oceans are full of sounds that provide clues about its current health and the state of the climate. The Ocean Decade Research Programme on the Maritime Acoustic Environment (OD-MAE) seeks to promote research to quanitify sound metrics to inform best practices for sustainable development and guide restoration efforts in the oceans.
Researchers have created a virtual reality system that lets patients at audiology clinics ‘test drive’ what hearing aids will sound like in the places where they need them the most, such as noisy restaurants, reverberant places of worship, or even outdoors.
The ultrasound system presented is versatile, does not require a dedicated MR system or to be performed in the MR scanner unlike other systems and the entire procedure can last less than 30 min from start to finish. Ultrasound can thus be used alone or in conjunction with a drug in order to change the current dire landscape of treatment of brain disease.
Vehicles are loud, and we hear them all the time. But how loud is it near your home, or at the park across town?
Animal studies are pointing to ways to improve pitch perception by users of cochlear implants.
Brothertown Indian Nation would like to say, Here we are…Hear our story! The acoustic simulations and auralizations created during this acoustics case study of the Curricomp House are tools: a means by which living descendants might hear one another in the difficult to access acoustic environments of their ancestors.
A combination of air-coupled ultrasound and light is used for fully noncontact, non-invasive mapping of directional elasticity in human skin. This may lead to important innovations in skin care and reduce unintended outcomes from surgical interventions.
Building design is increasingly influenced by reducing its carbon footprint; yet research has shown that acoustics can be directly impacted by sustainable design goals. Read more on acoustics.org.
First evidence of bowhead whales breaking their annual migration pattern in 2018-2019 were found overwintering at their summer foraging ground in the western Canadian Arctic, an anomaly associated to low sea ice.
The present study demonstrates that both young children and older adults aren’t as good at voice discrimination compared to young adults.
We hear sound wherever we are, on buses, in streets, cafeterias, museums, universities, halls, churches, mosques, etc. How we describe sound environments (soundscapes) changes according to our different experiences throughout our lives. Based on this, we wonder how people delineate sound environments and, thus how they perceive them.
Take all of computer music, advances in programming digital sound, the web and web browsers and create an enjoyable playground for sound exploration.
Have you ever wanted to just wave your hands to be able to make beautiful music? A new generation of virtual reality instrument designers is exploring new techniques to bring the joys and wonders of live musical performance into the 21st Century. Read more on acoustics.org
The drive to explore extreme ocean environments could provide evidence of life beyond Earth, since where there is water, life is possible.
Studies demonstrate brain changes occur in children with unilateral hearing/deprivation.
